How to choose
Picking your FPL captain for Gameweek 1
The top of this table is the safe armband: highest predicted points, usually a premium forward or midfielder with a kind fixture. Captaining the highest expected return every week is a boring strategy that beats most alternatives over a season.
If you are chasing rank rather than protecting it, Raya is the first name outside the obvious three, at £6.0m and 4.1 predicted points. Fewer rivals will own the armband there, so it gains more when it hits — and costs more when it does not.
Set a vice-captain who is certain to start. If your captain misses the gameweek entirely, the armband passes to them automatically; if your vice also does not play, you lose the double altogether.
